A new paper has been recently published by Giacomo Capuzzo in PLOS ONE. The study represents the first effort towards characterizing Bronze Age population dynamics in Central-Southern Europe through the Summed Calibrated Probability Distributions (SCPD method, based on the statistical analysis of 14C-dated archaeological contexts. The joint reconstruction of continuous regional climatic patterns allows for an accurate contextualization of human-environment interactions in prehistory. This paper contributes to the ongoing debate on the impact of climate on social transformations. The focus on different regions highlights similarities and differences between the demographic and climatic trends of neighboring areas. It also provides an independent test for regional narratives, which are often based on a more qualitative interpretation of cultural and environmental proxies.
